Vestenbergsgreuth – For the fourth year in a row the Martin Bauer Group is participating in the nationwide initiative CAMPUS OF EXCELLENCE and thus in establishing networks between schools, universities of applied sciences and business. In the context of this involvement the Martin Bauer Group, the leading group of companies involved in the cultivation, refining and marketing of plant products, hosted the autumn symposium of the association of the alumni and sponsors of the CAMPUS OF EXCELLENCE in Gremsdorf and Vestenbergsgreuth at the end of November. Some 80 guests – including school pupils, students, scientists and representatives of various companies – discussed the topic of knowledge management. “Unfortunately a large number of medium-sized enterprises underestimate the added value of professional knowledge management even though it permits resources within a company to be utilised far more efficiently,” explains Wolfgang Hidding, who is responsible for public relations at the Martin Bauer Group and is himself an alumnus of the CAMPUS OF EXCELLENCE. “We are therefore all the more pleased that we, as the symposium’s host, were able to offer those interested a platform which enables them to obtain information on the subject and to discuss it with experts.”

Extensive programme, renowned speakers
As a nationwide initiative of more than 70 commercial enterprises, institutions, associations, universities of applied sciences and schools, the CAMPUS OF EXCELLENCE has promoted an exchange between young people with great development potential and businesses since 2005. The alumni association complements the educational mission of the CAMPUS and regularly offers advanced training courses for its members. The speakers at the symposium included Prof. Dr. Klaus North from the University of Applied Sciences RheinMain, Markus Will from the Competence Center for Knowledge Management at the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e. V. in Berlin, Dr. André Scholz from the management consultants Booz & Company, and Anja Flicker from reinisch AG and “Knowledge Manager of the Year 2003”. The programme was rounded off by a panel discussion with the speakers and representatives of medium-sized partner companies of the CAMPUS OF EXCELLENCE. A guided tour at the Martin Bauer Group which enabled the guests to obtain an insight into the activities of the family-run company which is active around the world was also on the agenda

The Martin Bauer Group also offered work placements
In addition to staging the symposium, this year the Martin Bauer Group also once again provided two work placements within the framework of the praxis academy of the CAMPUS OF EXCELLENCE. As a result, from August to September 2009 two students were able to obtain valuable practical experience at the specialist for all products connected with plants and, quite incidentally, made important contacts with a potential employer. “Today the networking of business and science is more important than ever,” says Wolfgang Hidding. “Both sides can only benefit from an exchange like that at the praxis academy. It was therefore obvious to us that we would be involved again this year – this time with two placements.” During the seven-week programme the two students worked in Vestenbergsgreuth on analysing the market potential of selected new product segments for the Martin Bauer Group and experienced what it is like to operate under typical everyday working conditions. Throughout the entire work placements they were actively supported by the employees of the Martin Bauer Group.

Practical commitment
This cooperation with the CAMPUS OF EXCELLENCE is just one of the many projects in which the Martin Bauer Group is actively engaged in promoting its environment and people. Here the Group always employs a holistic approach: Holistic Corporate Responsibility thus also means, for instance, that when it procures raw materials the Martin Bauer Group is increasingly focusing on controlled, integrated cultivation and is committed to observing stringent environmental guidelines. In this context the Group accepts responsibility for its employees, suppliers and partners and is involved in various social projects, both in the region and beyond.
